Welcome to my blog, Have You Read This One? It was formerly called A “Well-Known” Journalist, which was somewhat of a cheeky title, but dive in for a bit to enjoy the posts, and definitely pull up a chair again when you visit next.
Growing up in Jamaica was awesome. Imagine living near the capital, Kingston, but spending summers in the country or at the beach, each time racking up a new adventure to reflect on. Can you picture it: the blue sea, a river, an endless meadow, orange and mango trees, and real, live cows? I even learned to ride a bicycle in the country. I had no choice, really. For rocketing at break-neck speed down a hill, I had better find my balance.

After five years in journalism as a reporter with the then national news agency of Jamaica, I married Shauna. Living now in the US, on our seventh wedding anniversary in 2006, we welcomed our first child and a second, two years later. I did a stint as a writer for an online events and venue guide, but switched to non-profit education, first as a teacher, then eventually as director of the program.
The previous choice of A “Well-Known” Journalist for the title of this blog was not a random selection. And it was by no means an attempt at self-aggrandizement. Please read my first blog post for an explanation. I self-published Pull Up A Chair, a book of poetry in August, 2019. The poems, which I hope to do some voice recordings of for this blog, capture reflections on some childhood events, musings I have had, and observations I have made.
